On October 14, 2021, three members of our research team, Zsuzsa Czagány, Eszter Gaál and Mózes Enyedi visited the Diocesan Archives in Satu Mare (Romania), where, with the kind permission and help of archivist Lajos Váradi, they studied and digitized the medieval notated codex fragments of the Old Episcopal Library maintained by the Archives. The four fragments discovered during the research have survived as covers of 16th and 17th-century books from the library of the former Franciscan convent in Szatmárnémeti. Of particular importance for chant scholars is the late 14th-century fragment of a pontifical, in which Péter Pázmány’s A setét hajnalcsillag után bujdosó lutheristák vezetője (…) [The Leader of the Lutherans Hiding after the Misty Dawn Star…], printed in Vienna in 1627, was bound. The restoration of the fragment is expected to begin in 2022.
An analytical description of the notated fragments will soon be available on the website http://fragmenta.zti.hu/.
